How CryoPen® Works?

Is the treatment painful?
At a penetration rate of 1 mm per 5 seconds, the ice will reach the caudal extent of the lesion after a given amount of time. Patients will experience pain at this point, and treatment should be stopped. A slight stinging sensation may persist for a few minutes after the treatment.
Will there be scarring?
CryoPen® treatments typically cause the least amount of scarring compared to other lesion removal methods, as they cause minimal damage to the connective tissues. Hypopigmented lesions will be noticeable until they darken.
How long will the lesion take to heal?
A blister may form and persist for up to 5 days, after which it scabs over. Healing times vary from 2-6 weeks, depending on the lesion's depth and location.
How many treatments are needed?
Most lesions respond to a single treatment. However, deeper lesions may require several sessions for complete removal.
How long will the results last?
Cryotherapy generally provides permanent removal of lesions. However, some lesions are harder to remove than others.
Will activities be limited after treatment?
There are no limitations on activities except for protecting the treated area from damage or abrasion. Swimming and showering are permissible.
What follow-up is necessary?
Follow-up appointments should be scheduled at 2-week intervals to monitor results and provide further treatments if necessary.
Can anyone have the treatment?
Yes. However, skin types and lesion locations should be carefully considered prior to treatment.
What are the risks for darker-skinned patients?
Melanocytes, the cells responsible for pigment in the skin, are highly sensitive to cold injury and can be easily damaged during cryotherapy. Darker-skinned patients should consider the risk of permanent pigment loss.
Is there a change in pigmentation after treatment?
Both hypopigmentation (lightening) and hyperpigmentation (darkening) may occur after cryotherapy. These changes generally last a few months but can be longer-lasting. Please discuss this with your practitioner before treatment.
